Title catch your eye? I am not talking about your physical self, but your spiritual self. Oswald Chambers said,
When a person is born again from above, the life of the Son of God is born in him, and he can either starve or nourish that life. Prayer is the way that the life of God in us is nourished.
Our physical bodies need food to fuel our daily lives. How many of us eat only enough food to fuel our bodies? We eat more just because it tastes good, or unfortunately because we have an emotional or spiritual emptiness that we are trying to fill. It’s amazing how easy overeating can be.
When’s the last time you felt like you consumed & digested enough of God to fuel His life in you? We have no problem eating too much food, but can’t seem to find the time & the discipline to spend time in prayer, reading & studying God’s word, ministering to His children.
I know I was convicted when I read Chambers’ words about prayer. I realized that I often STARVE the life of Christ in me. After Jesus talked with the Samaritan woman at the well, the disciples joined Him, but couldn’t interest Him in food for His physical body. John 4:34 says ‘Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.’ They were travelling on foot and needed fuel for their bodies, but Jesus was focused on His inner self and the work that the Father had sent Him to do.
My prayer is that I will do more to regularly nourish His life in me. Will you join me?
Times have changed since we started our little blog here. Our church website host has added more capabilities (and I’ve learned how to use more of them) and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have really started to catch on with adults. So, I have decided not to delete this blog, but to change what we use it for. More changes will be made in the coming days…and we’ll start using it again
Well, sometimes Life Happens!! We snap out of it, we adjust and we move on. Please forgive the hiatus and look for things to change and begin again in the coming weeks.
Derby now has a Cato Fashions. It’s right next door to the new Target. Cato has a very loyal following, and with good reason - really cute fashions, GREAT prices (and new stuff every week). Pop in and check it out. Web site is www.catofashions.com (you can view a short commercial – but don’t expect to see it on television, they’re usually only shown in the larger metro markets). Sizes are girls 7-16, Junior/Miss (4-16, S-XL [a few petite slacks & jeans]) and Plus (14/16W to 26/28W) – shoes, accessories, jewelry, impressions of many popular fragrances, gifts & housewares, too!
My Monday Musing…
Wow! It’s been a while since my last post…the reason is what leads to today’s “musing”. I’m definitely not singing a new song here, but our household has been so busy lately, it seems there’s hardly time to breathe. (I know, welcome to all of your lives, right)? I have even led a conference on Balance in a Christian woman’s life and have really worked on this area the last year or so, but I am reminded it is truly a journey, not a destination (and that I’m not the only one in my house that needs to learn to relax). I am convicted that I need to finally finish two books I started to read, but never completely finished: Be Still: Finding the Quiet and Security of God’s Presence, by Elizabeth M. Hoekstra; and Breathe: Creating Space for God in a Hectic Life, by Keri Wyatt Kent. Both can be found at Perfect Peace stores or on Amazon.com:
Activity on the blog has been a little slow (and we still haven’t convinced most of you to leave comments)…so, what I want to know is…
What is your favorite place/way to slow down, unwind, and find some quiet?
Just comment on this post to share. I’ll start: In my fantasy life I would be next to the fireplace in my log cabin (next to a mountain lake) with a cup of hot tea and a blanket. In my real life there would definitely be a hot beverage (coffee or tea) and a blanket, maybe some very soft music in the background and lots of candles. Or, maybe on my porch if it’s not too windy.
Tag, you’re it!!
Have a blessed week!
Sorry, but once again, no picture. I took a picture the last time I made it but it didn’t do the recipe justice. If you want to add more kick, replace the Velveeta Light with Velveeta Mexican!
1 cup boiling water
4 oz can mushrooms
4 oz Light Velveeta Cheese
2 cups cooked spaghetti (I use rotini but any pasta should work)
1 pkg white chicken gravy
1 can Rotel tomatoes
8 oz. cooked Chicken (I sometimes use the pre-cooked fajita chicken by Tyson)
Mix together all ingredients. Pour into an 8×8 dish and bake at 400 for 25 minutes.
Brad, Bailey & I are getting ready to go see this. I’ve already talked to several who have seen it and it is getting great reviews! I’ll post a comment after I’ve seen it. If you’ve seen it, give us a review (comment)! Lisa
Wow! Praising God for some bruised toes!! Finished my review on the comments, then came across this blog post on Today’s Christian Woman: Yes, It Is About Me.
My Monday Musing…
Oops, it’s after midnight so my “Monday” musing is a little-bit-Tuesday. I’ve been busy trying to do some family/home stuff so I missed last week’s post, but here’s something I’ve been thinking about…
This weekend we’re having series of events at PBC called Light the Fire Again. Lot’s of good stuff will be taking place, both morning and evening events, on Friday, Saturday & Sunday (visit the church web site to get more info). Gracia Burnham got us off to a great start yesterday. How wonderful it is that she seems to have discovered God’s new purpose in her life to reach out to those who held her captive. It is good for us to look for new passion and energy in our lives and Christian walk. Don’t you sometimes wish, though, that you didn’t have to re-ignite yourself so often. What is it that keeps dousing our flames, requiring us to re-group & re-start?
Life!! This world and its many distractions is the obvious answer to our flickering flames, and even occasionally dying embers. In Luke 9:57-62 Jesus encountered some men in Samaria on the road to Jerusalem who each boldly proclaimed they wanted to follow Him. The problem was that each man had a “but” – something he had to do before he could devote himself to the Savior. Isn’t this also true for us as modern-day Christ-followers? The Lord daily calls us to lay down our distractions, pick up our cross, and follow Him, but if you’re anything like me, you often get 5-minutes, an hour, or more into your day and the “buts” come creeping in: “Yes, Lord. I want to spend time with you, but I really need to do a, b & c first.”; “I’ll do this for you, Lord, after I’ve got a better handle on this other aspect of my life.”
The Tuesday morning Bible Study ladies were reminded this past week that God wants to take us to places so far outside our capabilities, limitations and even our imaginations, that His glory will be evident. When we cooperate through our surrender and obedience, we’ll become the person only He could make us – so He’ll have to get the credit! We don’t have to give up everyone and everything that might serve as a distraction, but we must be willing to sacrifice them when they take the place of our relationship with Him…when they demand our greater loyalty…when they divert us from our call. Let’s re-ignite this weekend and continue to fan the flame, only God knows how far He will take us!
Once the call of God comes to you, start going and never stop.
–Oswald Chambers (My Utmost for His Highest, updated edition)–
Have a blessed week!
From the cradle to college, tell your daughters the truth about life before they believe the culture’s lies.
For mothers with girls newborn to eighteen, Five Conversations You Must Have with Your Daughter is simply a must-have book. Youth culture expert Vicki Courtney helps moms pinpoint and prepare the discussions that should be ongoing in the formative years.
This book is due to release November 1 from LifeWay (click on cover for more description & info). I’m recommending it in advance, because I am familiar with Vicki Courtney’s writing and insight into the lives of our children, especially our girls!
Just wanted to give you a “heads up”…
You don’t want to miss Gracia Burnham,
who will speak at our morning worship service Sunday, September 28 @ 10:30am. What a great opportunity to invite someone you know who is a pre-believer or is looking for a church home! Keep an eye on the church website for this and other special events coming up!
