My Monday Musing…

Oops, it’s after midnight so my “Monday” musing is a little-bit-Tuesday. I’ve been busy trying to do some family/home stuff so I missed last week’s post, but here’s something I’ve been thinking about…

This weekend we’re having series of events at PBC called Light the Fire Again. Lot’s of good stuff will be taking place, both morning and evening events, on Friday, Saturday & Sunday (visit the church web site to get more info). Gracia Burnham got us off to a great start yesterday. How wonderful it is that she seems to have discovered God’s new purpose in her life to reach out to those who held her captive. It is good for us to look for new passion and energy in our lives and Christian walk. Don’t you sometimes wish, though, that you didn’t have to re-ignite yourself so often. What is it that keeps dousing our flames, requiring us to re-group & re-start?

Life!! This world and its many distractions is the obvious answer to our flickering flames, and even occasionally dying embers. In Luke 9:57-62 Jesus encountered some men in Samaria on the road to Jerusalem who each boldly proclaimed they wanted to follow Him. The problem was that each man had a “but” – something he had to do before he could devote himself to the Savior. Isn’t this also true for us as modern-day Christ-followers? The Lord daily calls us to lay down our distractions, pick up our cross, and follow Him, but if you’re anything like me, you often get 5-minutes, an hour, or more into your day and the “buts” come creeping in: “Yes, Lord. I want to spend time with you, but I really need to do a, b & c first.”; “I’ll do this for you, Lord, after I’ve got a better handle on this other aspect of my life.”

The Tuesday morning Bible Study ladies were reminded this past week that God wants to take us to places so far outside our capabilities, limitations and even our imaginations, that His glory will be evident. When we cooperate through our surrender and obedience, we’ll become the person only He could make us – so He’ll have to get the credit! We don’t have to give up everyone and everything that might serve as a distraction, but we must be willing to sacrifice them when they take the place of our relationship with Him…when they demand our greater loyalty…when they divert us from our call. Let’s re-ignite this weekend and continue to fan the flame, only God knows how far He will take us!

Once the call of God comes to you, start going and never stop.

Have a blessed week!
